Focused Shockwave Treatment
Universal Men’s Clinic (UMC) is focused on men’s health and intimate wellness. UMC uses a special type of sound wave that is clinically proven to treat erectile dysfunction (ED)i. This sound wave therapy, also known as focused shockwave therapy or Low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT), has been studied worldwide in many successful clinical trials over the last fifteen years. It is currently approved in Europe and is rapidly becoming the gold standard for ED treatment.
The focused shockwave therapy treats ED by remodeling and strengthening existing blood vessels, removing plaque buildup that naturally happens as men age, and stimulates the growth of new blood vessels (called neovascularization) inside the penis. This effective treatment significantly improves blood flow and leads to longer lasting, and harder erections. Importantly, this therapy achieves these clinically proven and long-lasting results without drugs, needles, surgery, or painii. It also allows for spontaneous sexual activity and freedom from having to take a pill when the mood strikes.

What is the Difference Between
Shockwave Therapy Treatments?
There are two major types of shockwave therapy: Focused Shockwave Therapy and Radial Shockwave Therapy. The names of these treatments refer to the types of waves produced during therapy. They also differ in many capacities within the patient experience and potential benefits.
Focused Shockwave Therapy
Focused shockwave therapy or Low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LI-ESWT) enables a targeted, deeper treatment to specific areas of the body. They are single, focused pulses that can treat down to the cellular level. This focused concentration allows for many beneficial effects, including increased blood circulation, vasodilation, and the growth of new blood vessels (neovascularization)iii. These long-term results are proven by many clinical trials, and are achieved without surgery, drugs, or pain managementiv.
Radial Shockwave Therapy
Radial waves are used for surface applications, such as those for the skin since they do not penetrate deeply into the tissue. While radial waves can increase circulation temporarily, it is mainly due to the pain/inflammatory response they produce. Local anesthesia (sometimes requiring needles) is also widely used for pain management during the treatment procedure. In addition, any results seen with radial waves tend to be short-livedv. Radial shockwave treatments often require repeat series of treatments to maintain desired results. Your healthcare provider will advise you as to the best course of treatment to obtain your desired results.

While there are many types of wave therapy providers claiming they can treat erectile dysfunction with shockwave therapy, make sure you are asking questions to determine if ED treatment is their specialty, and which type of wave therapy will be used during your procedure. Focused shockwave therapy has proven long-term results that most patients desire for the treatment of ED.
Our Focused Shockwave Therapy Treatment Process
Universal Men’s Clinic’s LI-ESWT treatment protocol for ED typically consists of a total of six or more 20-minute sessions over the average course of six weeks. The initial consultation is approximately 30 minutes. Length of treatment sessions vary by individual. Treatments are not painful and are done without drugs, needles, or anesthesia. After waiting 60-90 days for the blood vessels to remodel and new ones to grow, some men may require additional sessions to achieve maximum results.
As focused shockwave therapy is an out-patient procedure, most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. While every patient is different, treatment results can usually be seen in about six weeks, some men may experience results sooner.
You will meet with one of our qualified medical providers. You and your provider will discuss your medical history, your experiences with ED, as well as any other health-related factors.
Unlike a typical doctor’s office, there is no waiting time at Universal Men’s Clinic, and the process is confidential.
Evaluation & Treatment Plan
Depending on what your provider finds during your initial consultation, they may recommend additional testing or blood work. Then, they will use the data they collected during your consultation along with any available test results to create a customized shockwave therapy treatment plan just for you.
Treatments & Monitoring
There is no downtime, pain or side effects involved in shockwave therapy treatments. Most patients will experience improvement during their shockwave treatment period. However, if not, don’t worry. We can offer a wide range of customized treatments, and your provider will work with you to find the treatment that is most effective for you.
